As a person with an infinitely flexible schedule, here is what I've learned by taking a break from Facebook for a couple days: Do it!
Facebook is addictive, but you don't get much more than a very minimal level of entertainment from it. I accidentally opened Facebook probably 5 times and had to click to exit right away. But in these past two days, I've finished 30 lessons of Japanese conversation, kept my emails down to zero-ish, and planned more of our upcoming adventures.
When we're scrolling Facebook for hours, we're reading news posts, keeping up with current events, and discovering references shared by our friends. It's an okay way to keep connected with what's happening in the world.
But you don't get anything accomplished.
Instead of reading people's anime memes, you could watch an episode of anime. Or read a book. Or answer emails. Or learn a language. Take an effort to spend more of your time doing something productive and proactive, and you'll be happier at the end of the month. The feeling of accomplishment from doing things is far greater than the entertainment value of scrolling through social media.
