Celebrate Bernie Sanders Birthday

It’s also my birthday today!

My favorite politician, Senator Sanders has been a leading voice in American politics for many years, fighting for humanitarian causes and advocating for a more just society.

Bernie Sanders was born on September 8, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the University of Chicago, where he became involved in activism and politics. For example, during his time at the University of Chicago, Bernie Sanders was a member of the Congress of Racial Equality and participated in the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This early involvement in civil rights activism would shape his political career and his commitment to fighting for social justice and equality for all people.

In 1981, Sanders was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont, where he served for eight years. During his time as mayor, he focused on affordable housing, environmental issues, and economic development. He also ran for and won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1990, where he served until 2007. In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he continues to serve today.

Throughout his political career, Senator Sanders has been a champion for working people, fighting for policies that promote economic justice and equality. He has been a vocal advocate for universal healthcare, raising the minimum wage, and expanding access to education. He has also been a leader in the fight against climate change, calling for bold action to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a clean energy economy.

These are all smart policies. We’ve shown that profits in the healthcare industry are ridiculous and don’t go towards research and educating new doctors, so universal healthcare would be great.

It’s important to note that despite astronomical profits in healthcare, much of the money is not being reinvested in improving healthcare. The funds are not being used to develop new treatments, increase access to care, or train more doctors. Instead, they are going towards executive salaries, shareholder dividends, and other non-essential areas that don’t contribute to improving patient care. Universal healthcare would cut costs and allow us to re-invest in research and educating doctors.

Additionally, raising the minimum wage is important because many low-wage workers are not able to make ends meet, even while working full-time. Expanding access to education can help break down the systemic barriers that prevent people from achieving their goals and improving their economic prospects.

And of course, taking action on climate change is vital to ensure that future generations have a habitable planet to live on. Senator Sanders has been a strong proponent of transitioning to renewable energy sources and investing in clean energy infrastructure to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

It’s been shown that solar power is cheaper and safer than coal and gas, but there are still those who resist the transition to renewable energy as the oil and gas industries have spent billions of dollars on misinformation campaigns to make you think that solar isn’t a viable option.

For my birthday all I ask is that you enjoy some sunshine today!
