Talking about sustainability can mean so many things today. It could refer to recycling, turning off unneeded lighting, or capping the greenhouse gas emissions of large corporations.
At AnimeCon.org, we take sustainability seriously and believe that every little bit counts. Our mission is to make our events as environmentally friendly as possible, while still providing an amazing experience for our attendees.
We know that organizing an event of any size can have a significant impact on the environment. From the energy used to power the venue to the waste generated by attendees, there are many areas where we can make a difference. That’s why we’ve implemented a number of sustainability initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment.
One of our key initiatives is reducing the amount of waste generated at our events. We encourage attendees to bring their own reusable water bottles. We also ask vendors to ensure that all food packaging is compostable or recyclable.
We also work to reduce our energy consumption wherever possible. We use energy-efficient lighting and equipment, and encourage our staff to turn off any unused electronics. For example, on our stages we no longer use the high-energy halogen type lightbulbs that lose a lot of energy as heat. Instead we use efficient LED lighting. We also work with our venues to ensure that they have energy-efficient systems in place, and we even offset our carbon footprint by supporting renewable energy projects.
The hotels we partner with have several green certifications thanks to the sustainable practices they employ and we encourage. One example is the Hyatt’s Global Care and Cleanliness Commitment, which includes sustainability initiatives such as reducing water and energy consumption, recycling, and using environmentally-friendly cleaning products.
Another way we focus on sustainability is by reducing our reliance on paper. We provide digital versions of our event guide and schedule, and encourage attendees to use mobile apps to access event information. We also work with our vendors to ensure that any printed materials are made from sustainable sources and are recyclable.
Finally, we work to educate our attendees and staff about sustainability and the impact of their actions. By working together, we can make a difference in the world and ensure a sustainable future. For example, we try to maximize carpooling and minimizing individuals taking long trips on their own, saving on fuel usage.

Growing your own food is a great way to be more sustainable and reduce your carbon footprint. But not everyone has the time, space, or expertise to maintain a traditional garden, especially someone as busy with me running multiple companies and working long days. That’s where Farmbot comes in.

But of course not everyone has time to grow food and tend a garden, so there are other ways to be sustainable. Solar power is one such way.
I also have been focused on solar power a lot lately. Here are some ground mounted solar panels that I’ve installed. (Note, the installation was not quite completed here yet.)
