Fighting for Black Iowans

Billionaires and mega-corporations are stealing from all of us. For decades, politicians have promised relief while quietly shifting the tax burden away from the ultra-wealthy and onto working people. The result? Stagnant wages, skyrocketing costs, and a system rigged against everyday Iowans.

Black Americans have been hit the hardest by this economic injustice. While billionaires hoard wealth, Black communities face lower wages, higher unemployment, and systemic barriers to financial security. The ultra-rich and their corporate allies continue to profit while Black workers and families struggle under a system designed to keep them down.

The fight for economic justice is the fight for racial justice. I will work to ensure that Black Iowans have access to quality education, fair wages, clean neighborhoods, and a criminal justice system that treats everyone equally.

Investing in Underfunded Schools

Black children are too often stuck in schools with fewer resources, larger class sizes, and outdated materials. Education should not be determined by zip code, yet politicians continue to underfund schools in Black and low-income neighborhoods while handing tax breaks to the wealthy.

I will increase funding for public schools in historically underfunded districts, ensuring that every child—no matter where they live—has access to high-quality teachers, modern facilities, and the technology they need to succeed. We will close the resource gap and invest in the future of Black students.

Abolishing Private Prisons and Ending Racially Biased Sentencing

The private prison industry profits off of Black bodies. Despite making up only a small percentage of the U.S. population, Black Americans are disproportionately arrested, convicted, and sentenced to longer prison terms for the same crimes as white defendants. This is not justice—it is systemic exploitation.

I will abolish private prisons in Iowa and work to eliminate racial bias in sentencing. We will stop the prison industry from profiting off incarceration and redirect resources toward rehabilitation, education, and community support programs instead of mass incarceration.

Addressing Environmental Racism

Black and low-income communities are more likely to be exposed to pollution, toxic waste, and environmental hazards. Corporations dump pollutants into Black neighborhoods, politicians ignore the consequences, and families pay the price with their health.

I will hold polluters accountable and implement stricter environmental regulations in historically marginalized communities. Clean air and water are basic rights, and no company should be allowed to poison Black neighborhoods while raking in record profits.

Closing the Racial Wealth Gap

Decades of discriminatory housing policies, unequal pay, and predatory lending practices have left Black families with fewer opportunities to build generational wealth. While billionaires get tax cuts, Black homeownership rates remain low, and economic mobility remains out of reach for too many.

I will push for policies that make homeownership and business ownership more accessible, ensuring that Black families have the tools to build financial security and break the cycle of poverty. We will redirect tax breaks away from the ultra-rich and invest in Black economic empowerment instead.

Our Plan for Black Iowans

  • Increase funding for public schools in underfunded districts.
  • Abolish private prisons and eliminate racial bias in sentencing.
  • Hold corporations accountable for polluting Black communities.
  • Expand access to homeownership and small business loans for Black families.
  • Make billionaires pay their fair share so Black communities can thrive.

The fight for Black justice is the fight for economic justice. My campaign is about ending the system that enriches the wealthy while keeping Black communities struggling. We will build an Iowa where opportunity is truly equal for all.
